Psalm 22:16 in most Hebrew, Masoretic-Text manuscripts read, “…Like a loin, they are at My hands and feet. However, the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Septuagint, the Syriac Peshitta, the Latin Vulgate, the Ethiopic, and the Arabic versions read, “They have pierced My hands and feet.”
Since the latter source texts carry more weight than the Masoretic Text, the latter rendering, “They have pierced My hands and feet…,” is how the text is rendered in this version.
Also, the word “lion” in the MT is translated from the word כארי, a word that is very similar to the word כארו, which means “dug” or “pierced”. Thus, it is possible that the one-letter difference in spelling, the letter Vav/Waw (ו) to the letter Yod (י), may be the result of either a scribal error or a blatant Jewish attempt to hide an obvious prophetic reference regarding the crucifixion of Messiah Yeshua.
